Therapy for men in recovery in Florida and Maine
You’ve done the work to get sober. Some things still need attention.
For men in recovery who are stable but sensing something is still unresolved.
You’re not starting over. You’re going deeper.
You put in the work. You got sober, maybe found a program, rebuilt some of what you lost.
But there’s still something underneath. Old stuff that shows up in how you react, how you relate, how you feel when things get quiet.
Maybe it’s something that happened before the drinking or using started. Maybe it’s things that happened during. Maybe you’ve never said it out loud to anyone.
You don’t need to force your way through it. And you don’t need to start from scratch. You need someone who understands where you’ve been and can help you get to where you want to go. I’ve been there myself. With 22 years in recovery, I understand, and can help you work through these issues so that you can fully experience being “happy, joyous, and free.”
When recovery takes you far but not all the way there
Recovery does real work. A fourth and fifth step can be genuinely transformative. The program, your sponsor, the rooms. They can change your life.
But some things live in the body in a way that talk and insight can’t fully reach. You’ve done the work. You feel freer than before. And yet, there’s still something there.
You hear people share about the freedom they found. You relate, and you also notice something underneath that hasn’t shifted the same way. You wonder if something is wrong with you, or if you’re just not working your program hard enough. That’s not it. This isn’t about working harder. It’s about a different kind of work.
EMDR was developed specifically to help the nervous system process experiences that got stuck, the kind that talk therapy and even deep personal work can get close to but not fully resolve. It’s not a replacement for what you’ve built in recovery. It’s what can help you get the rest of the way there. Alongside EMDR, ACT gives you real tools for living differently going forward.
How therapy for men in recovery can help
Relief
Less reactivity, fewer triggers calling the shots, and more calm in the moments that used to derail you.
Options
Real tools for the situations where old patterns still show up, in relationships, at work, when things get hard.
Freedom
Processing what happened so it loses its grip, and enhancing the life your recovery has already made possible.
You might benefit from this work if…
You’ve been sober for a while but something still feels stuck or unresolved.
You find yourself reacting in ways that don’t match the person you want to be.
There are things from your past you’ve never talked about in treatment or in the rooms.
Trauma, whether you call it that or not, is still shaping how you feel and show up.
You want support that works with your program.
What this work can make possible
Old memories lose their charge and stop hijacking your present.
Relationships feel less complicated and more honest.
You respond instead of react, and it starts to feel natural.
Emotions that felt locked away start to surface, and that starts to feel like relief rather than weakness.
Recovery feels even fuller, with enhanced openness and freedom.

Any questions about therapy for men in recovery?
Does this work with my 12-step program?
Yes. This isn't a replacement for your program. It's a complement to it. Many of my clients are actively working a program and find that therapy helps them go deeper on what the steps surface. We'll work in whatever direction supports your recovery.
Do I need to have a lot of time sober to start?
Not necessarily. What matters more than time is stability, having enough of a foundation that we can do deeper work without destabilizing your recovery. We'll talk through that in the consult.
I've never talked about some of this with anyone. Is that okay?
Yes. We go at your pace. You don't have to share anything before you're ready, and I'll never push you somewhere you're not prepared to go. Many of my clients share things with me they've never told anyone else. I don't take that lightly. That's what this space is for.
How much do sessions cost?
Private pay sessions are $160 for 55 minutes. If you're using in-network insurance, your cost depends on your specific plan. See full fees and payment information here.
Do you accept insurance?
I prefer to operate on a private pay basis because it gives us the freedom to shape care around your goals rather than what an insurance company dictates.
That said, I understand insurance is what makes therapy accessible for many people, so I choose to be in-network with specific plans:
Florida
Aetna, Optum, Oscar, and United
Maine
Aetna
If your plan isn't one of these, I can provide you with a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Learn more about my fees and insurance policy here.
